Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints where people experience pain and fatigue in doing everyday things, like making a cup of tea, tying their shoelaces or opening the front door. In Ireland around 915,000 people, including 1,100 children, are living with the condition. However, through Arthritis Ireland's support services, many are discovering the simple steps to take control of their symptoms and make a big difference to their quality of life.

There are over 100 types of arthritis, the most common of which are osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

People of all ages are living with arthritis, not just the elderly - the average age of diagnosis for people with RA is 35. No arthritis cure exists at present and it is not known what causes it. What is certain, however, is that there are plenty of small steps you can take to ensure arthritis does not stop you leading a full and active life.
